Company Profile
In 1978, Bill Murphy was in need of a Collet Chuck to work with Warner & Swasey collet pads. He ordered one as an accessory to a new machine and, after 6 months waiting for delivery on the chuck he decided to make one himself. After using it a short time, he noticed it was improving his machine's efficiency. He decided to try a 5C collet chuck too. They were really hard to come by, never being readily available off the shelf. This too was a great product; his friends saw it and started asking him to make them for their machines. From there it proliferated. Bill and Wes Bakke decided to start a company that manufactured and inventoried collet chucks for the entire manufacturing industry. Advanced Tool Systems officially opened its doors March 1, 1981.
