PERFECT FOR LARGE WORKPIECES IN A VARIETY OF INDUSTRIES
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.––Shops seeking speed, rigidity and a very large grinding area need to look no further than Chevalier Machinery Inc. The company’s FSG Series Double-Column Grinders with Fixed Beam is the superior solution for these grinding needs. “The series is perfect for grinding large workpieces such as guideways for heavy machinery, wind turbines for power generation, solar energy plates and molds for automation and oil exploration,” says Chevalier Vice President Johnson Lan. “FSG Series Double Column Grinders have large-capacity table size, starting at 40" x 60", with a part load of up to 17,600 lbs.”
Chevalier’s patented elevation guideways and spindle structure have four heavy-duty square slideways that provide maximum rigidity and heavy-duty grinding capacity. The spindle head on the Y-axis runs on four hardened, ground and wider guides traveling on Turcite-B anti-friction material. A worm gear reducer and servo motor couples with a high-accuracy ballscrew and a pneumatic counterweight balance system to ensure smooth movement and prevents the head from crashing in case of a power failure.
“Chevalier’s spindle front runs with four super-precision angular contract ball bearings and NN-type precision roller bearings. The spindle rear is supported with two super precision angular contact bearings,” says Lan.
Special grease suitable for high-speed rotation comes loaded and no additional lubrication is required. The cartridge ID is grooved to accommodate an optional oil-cooling device to minimize heat displacement.
Chevalier’s base and table design is Meehanite cast iron throughout, table X axis coated with Turcite-B and travels on the hardened and ground double “V” base guideway for years of smooth stick-slip free precision movement.
A hydraulic cylinder drives the table, providing very smooth movement even under heavy loads. Chevalier’s customized and computerized controls allow the machine to precisely execute concave and convex grinding.

HIGH PRECISION FOR MASS PRODUCTION OF LARGE WORKPIECES AT A COMPETITIVE PRICE
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.––Users of Chevalier’s FVM-3016DCL Series have benefitted from a machine that offers a
heavy-duty structure, powerful spindle and state-of-the-art craftsmanship. “The machine is carefully assembled to guarantee superior, dynamic running accuracy,” says Herbert Hou, Chevalier’s national sales manager.
Capacity: The machine’s table size ranges from 126" x 57" to 165.4" x 57" with a table load ranging from 14,330 lbs. to 17,637 lbs. The XYZ travel ranges from 122" x 63" x 30.7" to 161.5" x 63" 30.7".
Structure: The main construction of the machine is a one-piece portal frame mounted on a one-piece structure, heavily ribbed
cast-iron base that forms a steady foundation without vibration. The oversized column and box-type beam construction features additional machine rigidity. The whole travel of table is fully supported. The heavy-duty roller guide ways adopt an XYZ-axis, providing a better acceleration and preventing stick-slip problem.
The spindle motor, ball screw and double counter-balancing cylinders are all properly located at the best positions to avoid unequal torque while
ensuring the best structural accuracy. A forced circulation cooling and lubrication system is applied to the spindle, bearing and gearbox to reduce thermal strain on the spindle and extend the life span.
Control: The FANUC 0iMD is a standard control feature with a 8.4" TFT LCD display. The 0iMD control also comes with the AICC high-speed
machining contour control. It has smoothly 3-D interpolation contouring control and an optional 200-block look-ahead function. An Ethernet connection; easy-access, front memory card slot; and a huge data-server memory capacity are among the many standard features.
Spindle: “The FVM-3016DCL Series also offers two spindle speeds: a 6000rpm, high/low-gear spindle range for ample power
output and a hi-speed range for fine-cutting results,” Hou explains. “The spindle head is located at the center of the beam, providing high-movement accuracy, superior heavy-cutting capability and outstanding rigidity.” The 30HP motor with two-speed gearbox can generate 609NM torque.

CLIENTS PRAISE CHEVALIER’S QP-3572 FOR HEAVY-DUTY AND RIGID STRUCTURE AND HIGH-PRECISION PERFORMANCE
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. –– Users of Chevalier’s QP-3572 vertical machining center in such industries as aerospace, defense, printing, automotive, construction, gas and oil product fields have experienced a dramatic increase in reliability and productivity.
“The QP-3572 vertical machining center has received praise from our clients for the machine’s rigid structure and high-precision for high productivity in large workpieces,” says Mike Plachetka, vice president of sales and machining systems at Machine Tool Diagnostics in Yorkville, Ill., and a dealer of Chevalier products.
The QP-3572 machining center features XYZ box ways that are hardened and precision grounded. The box way surfaces are coated with Turicite-B and hand scraped for smooth movement. The extra Y-axis stroke (35.4") is suitable for the mold and die industries or job shop machining.
The heavy-duty, two-speed gear type headstock comes standard on the QP-3572 machine, along with a 6000RPM, CT50 spindle taper. A forced-circulation cooling system is applied to bearings and gears in the gearbox. Also standard is the 30HP FANUC digital spindle motor that produces up to 451 ft.-lbs. torque at a lower speed.
“This outstanding cooling system reduces thermal expansion to a minimum and upgrades machining accuracy,” says Herbert Hou, Chevalier’s national sales manager.
Controlling the machine is a powerful FANUC 0i-MD controller that delivers rigid taping and AICC high-speed machining mode with a 40-block look-ahead. A front-loading PCMCIA port is standard for an optional memory card, which includes 1280M (512KB)/400 maximum program capacity. The FANUC control offers an Ethernet function and data server, as well as a manual guide for 0i conversational programming, among many other standard features.
The special design of the floating-type tool release system provides a tool change without extra pressure on the bearings and absorbs the 6,600 lbs. of unclamping force generated during each tool release. “This design helps prolong bearing life, maintain accuracy and increase speed,” Hou says. The maximum tool diameter without adjacent tool is 4.7" for 24T and 5" for 32T. The tool holder accepts tools weighing up to 15 lbs.
All machines are measured and calibrated after assembly by a state-of-the-art laser calibration equipment. This ensures precise verification and compensation of the machines, resulting in increased accuracy and repeatability. The machines are also given a ball-bar test to ensure the perfect circular interpolation.

CHEVALIER’S SMART-B818II MAXIMIZES HIGH-PRECISION GRINDING FOR A VARIETY OF INDUSTRIES
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.––Chevalier’s SMART-B818IIhas received praise from its clients for the machine’s high-precision grinding
and ease of operation. Many SMART users in various industries, including the medical, semiconductor, aerospace and job shop products fields, have experienced a dramatic increase in reliability and productivity.
The SMART-B818II is capable of producing “mirror” surface finishes on highly accurately ground workpieces, which produce microfinishes of 0.25 micron Rmax.
