  • Company Profile

CNC Software, Inc. is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art software tools for CAD/CAM manufacturing markets. Our goal is to provide superior software products based on our users' needs to solve simple to complex design and machining problems. In addition to providing the software, it is also our goal to provide exceptional service and support to our customers. Founded in 1984, CNC Software is one of the oldest companies in the PC-based CAD/CAM industry. The company was built on the concept of providing an inexpensive PC-based CAM system at a time when most other systems were expensive CAD oriented products. CNC Software was one of the first companies to introduce CAD/CAM software designed for the machinist and the engineer, providing a practical solution to both markets. The original version of Mastercam was founded in two-dimensional (2D) CAM. Mastercam was one of the first micro-based CAM packages to include CAD capabilities which allowed the user to construct his or her own parts quickly and easily. Shortly after CNC Software got its start in Massachusetts, the company moved its base of operation to an office in Vernon, Connecticut. Today, the CNC Software corporate headquarters and training facility is located in a company- owned 40,000 sq. ft. building in Tolland, Connecticut, midway between Boston and New York City. In addition to over 85 employees working at the corporate facility, CNC Software also has an office in the state of Washington dedicated to the educational market. The real backbone of the 80,000 installation-strong Mastercam community is our global dealer network. Some of these experts have been with CNC Software since the very beginning. They’ve helped build shops from the ground up, and have a true “partnership” with our customers, offering advice, strategy and experience to Mastercam users around the world. As an industry leader for over fifteen years, CNC Software prides itself on meeting the demanding needs of its customers by providing excellent products at affordable prices. We stick to our strategy of combining the best software programming with practical shop floor experience. We have remained at the forefront of CAD/CAM technology by listening to our customers' needs, being accessible, and most of all, being dedicated to them. CNC Software has provided CAD/CAM solutions to over 80,000 installations worldwide in mold making, automotive, aerospace, and consumer industries.

    As seen in MMS

CNC Software, Gene Haas Foundation Fund MSTEM3 Grant Initiative
The donation will provide more schools with access to Edge Factor products to help promote a positive image of manufacturing.

    CAM Technology Shortens Cycle Times
CNC Software will introduce Mastercam X8, featuring updated workflow capabilities and the company's Dynamic Motion technology, which the company reports can reduce machining time by as much as 75 percent.

Useful Advice for CAM Software Users
In a new whitepaper, Mastercam calls useful advice for CAM software users “CAM Initiatives.” These initiatives are practical projects and procedural policies designed to help a machining company make more effective use of its CAD/CAM resources. Although primarily targeted to Mastercam users, many of these initiatives contain useful advice that benefits users of any CAM software system.

The Costs and Benefits of Horizontal Machining
The shift from vertical to horizontal machining was even more expensive than this shop anticipated. It was also more valuable. Most of the shop’s machining centers are HMCs now—here’s why.

Dynamic Motion Moves Past Old Boundaries
The Dynamic Motion option in CNC Software’s Mastercam generates tool paths by following an expansive set of rules that are different from those most CAM software has traditionally followed. The motion of the tool is not defined strictly by boundaries of the area to be machined. Instead, the rules take into consideration not only the area from which metal is to be removed, but also the changing condition of the material throughout the various stages of machining.

    Refueling Manufacturing Through Storytelling
New media company Edge Factor is partnering with Purdue University and industry leaders to produce educational materials based on episodes of its shows.

    Design Software Tools Provide Flexibility
CNC Software offers Mastercam Design X7, a suite of design tools that includes 3D surfacing and solids for simplified, flexible design work.

    CAM Software Improves Turnaround Times
Mastercam CAM software from CNC Software helped Cope Plastics reduce lead time while improving efficiency, quality and consistency.

Innovative Approach Drives Software, Employee Development
During CNC Software's 30th anniversary celebration, MMS Editor Emily Probst got a chance to tour the facility and get a brief glimpse into the company culture.

    CNC Software Celebrates 30th Anniversary
The Mastercam developer was founded in 1983.

    Software Simplifies Setups and Gauging
CNC Software’s Mastercam X7 includes a new turn-mill function said to simplify machining on high-powered turning centers and full-function machining centers.

    Machining Software Offers Lathe Support
Mastercam X7 for Solidworks features updated lathe support and workflow improvements.

Native CAD Files Improve Pump Manufacturer’s Productivity
Implementing an integrated CAM package helped a pump manufacturer improve fixture design, offer single setup manufacturing processes and better communications and submissions to third-party vendors.

    Mastercam Announces National Competition
Students and young adults can win cash toward education expenses.

    CAM to Conversational to CAM
Despite having turning centers with conversational controls, this gear manufacturer has benefited from going back to CAM as its primary method of programming those machines.

    Consistency Is Key to Titanium
An important part of this shop’s successful approach to titanium machining is a toolpath strategy that keeps the load on the cutter constant. Another important element is the way this shop captures and reapplies what it learns about how effective it can be in this metal.

Software Offers Variable Depth Roughing and Other Enhancements
X6 Lathe from Mastercam delivers a suite of enhanced features designed to increase productivity.

CAM Software Keeps “Grave Digger” Alive
Talking shop with visitors to Mastercam’s Booth E-3340 all day Wednesday and Thursday is a departure of sorts for Pablo Huffaker, a monster truck driver whose public appearances are typically more about pulverizing metal than shaping it. However, when he’s not crushing cars, buses or even mobile homes from behind the wheel of the crowd-favorite Grave Digger, he and the rest of the team at the RaceSource fabrication shop in Tomball, Texas, rely extensively on Mastercam CAM software to keep the black-and-green behemoth in working order.

Shop Thrives on Evolving CAM Capabilities
High speed, turn-mill and “hybrid” tool paths that combine functionality are among the Mastercam CAM software features that help keep this shop competitive.
