It can also instantly regain lost traceability on materials. GOLDD technology delivers improvements in light element detection, overall sensitivity and measurement times, the company says.

The company’s Niton XL3t series material analyzers with geometrically optimized large area drift detector (GOLDD) technology are said to deliver improvements in light element detection, overall sensitivity and measurement times. This instrument offers light element detection of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur without helium or vacuum purging. For the machining industry, the capability to verify sulfur content in free machining steels, such as SS 303, can help eliminate damage to tooling caused by incorrect materials, the company says.
Coating Thickness Analyzer
The handheld Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t 800 XRF analyzer offers positive grade identification, composition analysis of alloy and metal coatings and substrates, as well as coating thickness/coating weight measurement. The instrument provides data such as eddy current, magnetic induction and Beta backscatter. Users will get precise multilayer coating thickness results in seconds, the company says.
Hand-Held Analyzers Identify Alloys, Content In Alloys
The Niton XL3 800 series hand-held XRF analyzer is designed to provide fast alloy grade identification and composition analysis of metal alloys. According to the company, the typical time for positive grade identification is less than 2 seconds. Also available is the XL3t 900 series, which features light element capability that can directly measure the content of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur in metal alloys.
