Get the revolutionary iMachining technology from SolidCAM and save 70%, or more, machining cycle time and extend tool life dramatically! Work with SolidCAM or InventorCAM, directly inside your SolidWorks or Inventor CAD system, and get CAM seamless single-window integration and full associativity!
Creating a 3D mold part using iMachining 3D
Are you getting the most out of your design software, CNC machines and tooling?
With SolidCAM and InventorCAM, the Leaders in Integrated CAM, you can power up your SolidWorks and Inventor to be the best CAD/CAM system available! Now you can use the CAD system you already know to program your CNC machines, without ever importing and exporting files.
Imagine the time and cost savings of eliminating model translation issues, as well as the incredible power of CAM functionality that works totally inside your familiar CAD interface. Watch as SolidCAM/InventorCAM automatically updates the NC toolpath, whenever a design change is made in your CAD system. You can make countless design changes without ever worrying about the cost and delays to the manufacturing side of the process. You will always be sure that you are machining your latest design revision!
But the advantages don’t just end with integration. With SolidCAM’s new revolutionary iMachining technology, you get more than 100 years of programming intelligence to automatically select and control your speeds and feeds while optimizing tool stepover and chipload. The result? You can machine 70% faster, or more, with even the smallest tools in the hardest materials, while extending your tool life dramatically. The smooth iMachining cutting will also do wonders for your CNC machine tool longevity.
iMachining has the following unique chracteristics, when compared to other High Speed Machining systems:
• Using its unique (patent pending) Technology Wizard, it is the only system that automatically works out the most suitable cutting conditions for the job at hand, taking account of the material, tool, geometry and machine properties.
• While other systems generate the toolpaths by keeping the cutting angle of the tool with the material constant, iMachining uses a minimum and a maximum cutting angle, stipulated by the Wizard as constraints (patent pending), and generates its toolpaths in conjunction with matching feeds and speeds, such that the mechanical and thermal loads on the tool remain constant, a feature that facilitates deeper cuts at higher feeds than other systems.
• Enjoying the extra degree of freedom of being able to let the cutting angle slowly vary between the minimum and maximum, a freedom denied to other systems, iMachining is able to machine areas of quite general shapes with a single continuous morphing spiral, while other systems are limited to symmetric spirals of generally circular shapes. This ability ensures iMachining’s success in cutting a larger portion of the area than other systems can, with continuous spiral toolpaths.
• While other systems, upon coming up to an island during a spiral cut, have to abandon spiral paths and resort to less efficient one way paths (E.G. Trochoidal or D-Type) for the remainder of the pocket, iMachining, in cases where it is more efficient, cuts a channel (Moat – patent pending) around the island, and then resumes spiral paths around the combined area of the area already cleared by the first spiral and the island with its Moat. This unique feature of iMachining enables it to further increase the area cut by spiral paths, dramatically reducing the total cycle time, and prolonging the tool life.
• Since even morphing spirals have their limits, iMachining, when having to cut an area whose boundary is extremely irregular (e.g. a long, narrow rectangle), automatically cuts a separating channel (patent pending) to divide the area into two, more regular shapes, and clears each with a separate spiral.
• Since usually iMachining manages to cut more than 75% of the total area of a pocket with continuous spiral cuts, there are fewer occasions where it needs to reposition. When having to reposition (going back to clear out a corner), iMachining will either retract or take a shorter detour at the current depth, if one can be found. The result, there are 3-10 times fewer retracts in iMachining compared to other systems.
The iMachining system capability to adjust automatically to material, geometry, cutters, and CNC machine tool capability and to lead the user through the entire operation, eliminates the trial and error approach of adjusting and optimizing parameters at the CNC machine.
With SolidCAM or InventorCAM and iMachining, you will be getting the absolutely best ROI ever for your CAM investment, while upgrading the productivity of your entire manufacturing process!

Machine STL Files With SolidCAM
SolidCAM has implemented STL cutting capability into SolidCAM2009. The module enables the user to directly machine STL files, which can be used in 3D scanning and rapid prototyping applications to describe 3D surface geometry. The module generates the stock box and the CAM part directly from the STL file.
Three-Step Creation Process For Inspection Program
SolidCAM describes its SolidCMM application as a complete inspection process that improves quality and reduces programming time. According to the company, an inspection program can be created in minutes. The part data (model and drawing) then can be simulated and verified in a virtual machine environment before it is transferred to the inspection machine in a standard CMM format.
