Established fuel economy values, which raise the standards to an equivalent 54.5 mpg by 2025 is going to require the transformation of cars and trucks. Both in terms of the powertrain moving the mass and the nature of what is being moved: as in structures that are strong, light, and capable. Manufacturing technology will be at the forefront of this unprecedented change.
