Nearly 130 Taiwanese companies are exhibiting their latest products and smart manufacturing technologies at IMTS this year, on the show floor and also in a virtual reality (VR) press conference.

The press conference, complete with VR goggles for each participant, takes place today at 1:30 p.m. (lasting until 2:50 p.m.) in Room 402 on Level 4 of the South Building. Titled “Taiwan: Make Tomorrow Come True,” the event features a virtual reality tour of the latest high-end products from a selection of top Taiwan brands including YCM, Tongtai, Taiwan Takisawa, Soco, Seyi, Quaser, Palmary, Nexcom, Techman Robot and FFG.

Organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, the event is meant to reflect Taiwan’s status as the world’s fourth-largest exporter of machine tools and accessories. Taiwanese manufacturers have begun embedding smart functions such as temperature compensation, anti-collision and manufacturing process optimization into their machines. They are also integrating automation facilities like robotic arms and applying smart technology to make environmentally-friendly machines, helping clients comply with international environmental protection regulations.

In 2017, the Taiwan machinery industry saw its annual production rise to a record-setting $25.6 billion (USD), driven in part by a 21-percent year-over-year jump in exports. The Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) forecasts another strong growth year in 2018 for both production and export value. Products range from smart machine tools to fully automatic production lines, five-axis machining centers and multi-function turn-mill machines.
