Contouring Head Basics

A shop in Texas often uses contouring heads to perform multiple operations on its large boring mills. Find out how these heads function. 

East Texas Machine Works specializes in machining very large components. It has three Cogsdill ZX contouring heads it can use on all of its boring mills. Those heads allow the machines to perform multiple operations in a single fixturing, reducing setups, tool changes and overall cycle time. They can also “turn” the OD of parts that may be impractical to rotate in a lathe’s chuck.
