The OPC Foundation Conference, held Thursday, September 13 at IMTS 2018, addresses standardized, secured interoperability of data for manufacturing companies. It is a free opportunity for marketing, business, and technical professionals at the show to learn about Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture (OPC UA) technology and how it can be used to maximize interoperability, the company says.

The OPC UA industry standard is designed to securely and reliably transfer data from machines to the cloud, and it is said to support and connect data from a variety of outside networks and organizations, including MTConnect and VDMA. “The suppliers and end-users attending IMTS benefit from learning about the OPC UA technology and how they can have the best infrastructure that supports so many different collaborations,” says Thomas Burke, president and executive director of the OPC Foundation.

Conference presentations focus on various aspects of OPC UA technology, from real-world success stories shared by company leaders, to technical sessions about the technology and how it can be used and adapted going forward.

“OPC UA is completely extendable, as technology changes on a daily basis,” says Burke. “OPC UA provides an abstract model that allows new communication methods to be easily plugged into the architecture, preserving the investment of the companies that build products leveraging the OPC UA technology.”

The conference, the second that the OPC Foundation has held during an IMTS show, features a set of presentations directed to technical professionals and a set addressing business professionals. The technology is also on display at the OPC Foundation’s booth on the show floor.
