Updated Website Enables Tool Customization
Tool Alliance has launched an updated version of the Tungsten ToolWorks website. Customers can register on the site for free and create customized solid carbide cutting tools with options such as square or ball ends, necking and different types of coatings. Users can receive quotes on customized tools in less than a minute and order immediately or save quotes for future use, the company says. Orders can be placed through distributors or factory direct.
To make the transition to hard turning, you'll need to switch from carbide to CBN inserts, but that is easier (and more economical) than you might think. It's making the jump to much higher surface speeds that might scare you off. It needn't. Here's why.
With macros and canned cycles resident in the CNC on most contemporary turning centers, single point turning of OD threads can seem like almost a default process decision. However, for numerous applications, OD thread rolling has inherent advantages as an alternative to cutting threads.
The more common twist drill point geometries often are not the best for the job at hand. By choosing the best point for the material being drilled, it is possible to achieve better tool life, hole geometry, precision, and productivity.
