Mazak's Discover 2013 event drew a nice crowd for machine demonstrations in the company's technology center.

From October 8th to the 16th, Mazak Corporation’s North American Headquarters held its Discover 2013 technology-driven manufacturing solutions event. Designed to be more than an open house, Discover 2013 showcased advanced machine tool technology, software, accessories, tooling and automation while providing attendees the opportunity to gain substantial knowledge for staying ahead of the manufacturing curve.

A tour of the National Technology Center revealed a number of new machine tool models performing innovative turning, milling, 5-axis and multi-tasking operations. Interactive learning sessions were also available during which industry experts led technical seminars, small-group Intelligence Zones, production remote monitoring applications and a variety of other presentations geared towards increasing production efficiency, improving part quality, shortening lead times, and reducing operational costs.

Additional tours were also available to view the manufacturing plant, which is undergoing its 15th expansion—the addition of another 100,000 square feet—since its opening in 1974. When complete, Mazak will have the capability to produce as many as 200 machine tool units per month.

Mazak has converted its entire manufacturing plant in Florence, Ky., over to the MTConnect open communications protocol to allow the company to monitor its equipment and gather valuable data that will be used to further improve manufacturing operations.
