Turning turns the stainless forging on the left into the thin-walled component on the right. First, the forging’s ID is turned to leave a wall thickness of approximately 0.06 inch. Next, a final wall thickness of 0.01 inch is attained through OD turning.

So my question to you is: How would you support the underside of the delicate “bell” profile so it doesn’t deflect during OD turning?

Its manufacturer uses a lollipop.
