Support Manufacturing Education Programs at IMTS 5K

All participant fees and donations from the Miles for Manufacturing 5K go directly to manufacturing education programs.

IMTS 2018 attendees can do their part in the race to fill the skills gap as the Miles for Manufacturing 5K Run/Walk returns to this year’s show. The early morning race takes participants on a 3.1-mile loop down scenic Lake Shore Drive. Since the first Miles for Manufacturing event at IMTS 2014, it has been a popular way for attendees to start the day and support the industry’s next generation.

All participant fees and donations go directly to programs that prepare students for careers in manufacturing. Proceeds from the IMTS event will be distributed through Smartforce Development at AMT—The Association for Manufacturing Technology to FIRST Illinois robotics teams, FIRST Indiana robotics trams, the Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program, and STEM middle schools in the Chicago Public Schools System, among others.

In just under four years, Miles for Manufacturing has donated cash and equipment to a range of programs and STEM schools. Events at other conferences and meetings hosted by AMT—The Association for Manufacturing Technology, which owns and operates IMTS, are donated to similar programs in those cities.

Many companies use the event as a way to build company spirit during IMTS. Participants can organize teams to run or walk the race, and they are eligible to win awards including most enthusiastic, best costume and largest team.

The event will take place Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 6:30 a.m. Participants can learn more and register for the event here.
