Are promises of riches the right way to draw people into manufacturing careers? I am grateful to Bobby Biggs, who began a discussion in Modern Machine Shop’s “Top Shops” LinkedIn group about an article touting the $100,000 factory job. The discussion provided the seed for my April column in MMS, in which I argue that some of the messages being used to promote manufacturing careers are short-sighted.
