Although high speed machining has been around for a while now, modern CAM systems continue to evolve to help manufacturers program parts faster and get the most out of their machine tools. To shed light on some of these developments, Chris MacBain of CAM developer GibbsCAM, a 3D Systems company, will present a free webinar next Wednesday, November 2, at 2 p.m. EDT. Topics include best practices for leveraging VoluMill, a package within the software that smooths variations in tool load; using the VoluMill Technology Expert to optimize feeds and speeds; optimizing clearance and retract moves to reduce cycle times; and improving surface finish through more efficient roughing.

During his 25 years in the manufacturing sector, Mr. Macbain worked in mold shops and model shops in both Illinois and California before becoming a CAD/CAM applications engineer. Register here for his presentation

  • Programming A Robot The Way You Program A CNC Machine Tool

Programming a robot with the same CAM software used for a multi-axis machine tool makes it unnecessary to “teach” the robot by jogging it manually from point to point and recording these point-to-point moves as the robot’s motion commands. Robotmaster is a software package that provides this CAD/CAM-based, off-line programming for robots. It runs fully integrated inside Mastercam CAM software for CNC machine tools.
