At IMTS in September, ONA will display what it says is the biggest wire EDM machine ever offered. Part of the company’s AF Modular series, the AF130 wire EDM machine can handle workpieces weighing as much as 22,000 pounds and measuring up to 96.5" long by 78.7" wide by 27.5" tall. It can cut huge parts totally submerged, too.

It ain’t messin’ around.

Some shops look to this type of big wire EDM capacity to serve as their competitive advantage. Extreme Wire EDM is one such shop we’ve profiled. This story explains some of the technologies it uses to succeed at large-scale EDM work.

Infinity EDM is another. This story tells about a huge wire EDM the shop bought even though it had no specific jobs lined up for the machine before delivery. The machine has since been completely booked.

If you’re considering adding some larger equipment, you’re sure to see a bunch of sizeable stuff at this year’s IMTS. Big machines will certainly be a conspicuous theme at the big show.
