MMS Online Expands

While most of the metalworking world celebrated the millennium last year, we here at MMS were biding our time, waiting for the real deal. And we think you’ll agree that the wait was well worth it.

For starters, we’ve expanded our Zone coverage. As a matter of fact, we’ve increased the number of Emphasis Zones on MMS Online to 14.

For the uninitiated, MMS Online’s Emphasis Zones assemble technology-specific databases, product repositories, forums, MMS’ hard-hitting technical editorial and more into relevant process-related contexts and formats.

All of MMS Online's Emphasis Zones have been recategorized as Product or Process Zones. New Product Zones include those serving your research needs for Grinding, Machining Centers, and Turning. We’ve also separated our former Software Zone into three more specific Product Emphasis Zones: CAD/CAM, CNC & DNC and Shop Management. Our brand new Process Zones serve Die/Mold Machining and Aerospace Machining.

Each MMS Emphasis Zone offers a Forum that'll flourish best with your participation. Visit the Zones of your choice to access a specific forum, or enter all the forums through MMS' Forums Page.

Also new to the MMS family this month is the MMS Web Exclusive, an additional feature “article” on MMS Online that supports each month’s MMS Emphasis or Spotlight topic. All MMS Web Exclusives will be presented on MMS magazine’s Table of Contents, along with a description and the URL of the piece.

This month's MMS Web Exclusive (our first!), "Interactive Tooling Selector For Aluminum Milling," supports Cutting Tools and is an interactive utility that may help you find the most sensible tooling for your very own aluminum milling applications.

One month, our Web Exclusive might be a full-blown feature article. The next MMS Web Exclusive might come in the form of an interactive utility, like this month’s.

As always—new millennium, or not—we’d like to hear your impressions of MMS Online. Contact us at www.mmsonline.com/talk.

Job Shop Site Of The Month

Now this is a process-rich Web site—job shop or not. Edwards Industries is a Pawtucket, Rhode Island, shop that specializes in a wide range of “cradle-to-grave” machining and support processes. Edwards’ Web site (www.edwardsind.com) effectively displays those capabilities—high speed scanning, reverse engineering, die/mold, EDM—along with its equipment and examples. The site is easily accessed and includes an online quote utility, supported by numerous methods to share files with the shop.

Want your shop or plant considered for Job Shop Site of the Month? Send your site's URL to otw@mmsonline.com with OTW Site Of The Month in the subject line. Please—job shops and plants only.

Screw Machining Technology Site Debuts

Along with all the new MMS Online goodies this month, a sister Web site in the Modern Machine Shop universe has just made its debut. You can check it out (and watch it grow) at www.production-machining.com. This site supports and expands a new magazine from the MMS staff, Production Machining. If screw machining technology is your thing, you'll want to subscribe to and visit both media often.
