The Coordinate Metrology Society (Reno, Nevada) has opened online registration for the 2018 Coordinate Metrology Society Conference, which will take place July 23-27, 2018, at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. For the first time, the membership association for 3D measurement professionals, which has traditionally served the portable metrology community, is inviting the coordinate measurement machine (CMM) industry at large to attend the conference and join its membership.

The five-day event is designed for both master and novice users seeking an educational atmosphere for career development. The plenary and track sessions include speakers and metrology practitioners from around the world.

The conference attracts metrology practitioners, quality control managers, manufacturing executives, scientists, students and educators. Attendees can find opportunities to learn about technology achievements, network with high-level users and get an overall picture of the state of the metrology industry. The exhibition hall will feature measurement and education zones as well as more than 45 exhibitors showcasing 3D measurement and inspection solutions used in manufacturing, R&D and other fields.

The conference’s weekly pass includes entry to more than 20 technical sessions, multiple workshops, the exhibition hall, the measurement and education zones, networking events, and post-conference access to all technical papers and presentation materials. Attendees can also participate in training courses, metrology challenges, educational forums, industry updates and a local tour. New attendees are encouraged to attend the conference orientation before the Monday evening icebreaker event.

The society also offers proctored level-one and level-two certification examinations during the conference.

  • Gaging Countersunk And Chamfered Holes

While countersunk and chamfered holes are similar in appearance, functionally they are quite different. Consequently, different gages exist to serve these different functional requirements.

  • Understanding Errors In Hand-Held Measuring Instruments

Different instruments (and different operators) are prone to different errors.

  • DFGT - Double Flank Gear Testing

Functional gear testing, also known as total radial composite deviation, is a method of looking at the total effect of gear errors. This test method simulates the conditions under which a set of gears is likely to operate as a result of the gears meshing together.
