Fives Joins France’s Jules Verne Research Institute

The partnership includes collaboration with businesses and institutions on special projects, including one focused on the additive manufacturing of titanium, aluminum and steel alloys.

Paris-based Fives has become a member of the Jules Verne Research Institute (Nantes, France) collaborating on two strategic projects in additive manufacturing and composites. One of these, the Titanium and Aluminum Additive Manufacturing (FATAL) project, is based on new additive manufacturing processes using titanium, aluminum and steel alloys. It aims to develop new applications in the fields of aerospace, automotive and energy, which require innovative lightweight designs with high strength. For Fives, this project could have applications in the manufacture of industrial equipment for energy applications.

The second project, Investigations for Manufacturing Processes Adapted to Composites (IMPACT), targets the automotive, aerospace and energy sectors to define the most relevant technological solutions for forming composite materials.

Both projects are carried out jointly by research institutions and industrial groups, encouraging the development of the advanced technological solutions for manufacturers.

The agreement between Fives and the Jules Verne Institute meets the Fives Group’s objective to adopt an “open innovation” approach by collaborating with other leaders in order to encourage the development of new technologies.
