The Nexus VCN 510C /50 machine from Mazak Corp. is the first of the Nexus family to have a 50-taper spindle for increased metal-removal capabilities. The VMC offers 30 hp, 6,000 rpm, and 206 foot-pounds of torque, with a 1:2 fixed-gear reducer. A 30-hp, 4,000-rpm, 310 foot-pound spindle with a 1:3 fixed gear reducer is also available to meet heavier cutting requirements.
A rapid traverse rate of 1,417 ipm at 0.5 G acceleration and a 2.0-second chip-to-chip time further reduces non-cutting time in favor of increased production, says the company. The machine is equipped with a 24-tool capacity ATC for extra tool storage. Other features include XYZ axes travel of 41", 20" and 23" respectively; a table size of 51" × 21"; and a maximum work weight of 2,640 lbs.
