The Versa-Mate, a compact vertical broaching machine, uses servomotor and planetary roller-screw technology but also relies on traditional "slide and way" construction, which results in a machine that is said to stand up to demanding production environments. According to the company, the machine's electromechanical drive system offers numerous advantages compared to hydraulically powered machines, including: less floor space required, no leaks and less maintenance; no need to purchase or dispose of hydraulic oil; lower energy costs because the drive motor runs only on demand; and better part finish and tool life from the machine's smoother cutting action. The design of the machine allows it to be adapted for either internal or surface broaching applications. The machine can be tooled for multiple-station operation and be used in automated broach production.
