CAM-Tool Shortens Speeds Tool Path Calculation
IMTS Spark: The latest version of CAM-Tool from CGS North America is said to shorten calculation time by as much as 60% compared to previous versions.
The latest version of CAM-Tool from CGS North America is said to shorten calculation time by as much as 60% compared to previous versions. The Auto five-axis function now produces 3+2-axis tool paths wherever possible, resulting in improved machined surface quality, since 3+2 machining involves less motion involving multiple axes. Another new feature, Only Interference, can keep 3x data as much as possible, only applying the 5x conversion where the system detects interference. This function can dramatically reduce machining time as well as calculation time, the company says.
A new Tree View interface reduces the amount of mouse movement involved in setting up programs and easier access to more features for the user. Tree View also provides instant access to any programs in the process list, making reference to previous programs faster and easier.
The software also features improvements to the ability to visually display a tool to determine the necessary tilt angle and cutter length. Right clicking on the tool description in the process list displays the tool for easier viewing to determine which tool to use.
CAD/CAM features can be key to realizing effective High Speed Machining.
Direct numerical control (DNC) should solve problems, not create them. If you under-stand how DNC works and follow the tips presented in this article, you can maximize its benefits and avoid headaches with your system. Part One of a two-part series.
The many rules of programming CNC cutter radius compensation can make machining problems difficult to diagnose and correct.
