Cincinnati VR’s range of pillar drill-thread cutters is equipped with the Commander ID300 speed drive motor from Leroy-Somer. The P23V CTCE range of pillar drills uses the speed motor to adapt its spindle speed according to the material, for both drilling and thread cutting. The tapping return can be made faster to optimize the cycle time. However, in certain materials that require finely-pitched tapped threads, the tapping return can be executed more slowly, for a better-quality machining result.

Ranging from 80 to 6,500 rpm, the spindle is equipped with electronic variation because of the speed drive for the company’s IMfinity motor. A decentralized system, the speed drive is said to offer high performance and high efficiency. The motor drive is equipped with features that enable a choice of options and adaptations for maximum flexibility, according to the company.
