CS Unitec’s Tiger Shark-Plantex elastic discs feature a reduced grinding temperature and high material removal rates. They do not glaze with aluminum particles, so the discs are ideal for aluminum grinding applications, the company says. The discs are flexible for grinding curved surfaces and shapes and are often used in metal fabrication shops, tool-making machine shops and by ornamental fabricators.

A ceramic-abrasive aluminum oxide imbedded on a cotton fabric increases grinding capacity and lowers tool costs for steel, aluminum and other nonferrous metals, the company says. Made from a Plantex hemp compound, the backing plate is said to adjust well to the shape of the workpiece. This heat-absorbent compound also reduces the temperature during grinding, which decreases the melting of the aluminum. The disc automatically reduces in diameter (self-trimming) during grinding, allowing full use of the abrasive fabric. The discs are available in diameters of 4", 4.5", 5" and 7" and in grits of 40, 60, 80 and 120. Optimal disc speeds range from 5,000 to 8,000 rpm. The maximum speed is 13,300 rpm.
