The Walter USA MX grooving inserts are said to enable high levels of flatness and surface quality with their tangentially mounted arrangement in the G3011/G3021 holders. Four cutting edges per insert multiply productivity and if one cutting edge breaks, the other cutting edges remain usable, according to the company.

These grooving inserts, with widths ranging 0.031"-0.127" (0.80-3.25 mm) and cuts as deep as 0.24" (6 mm), feature self-aligning tangential clamping. This clamping feature between the inserts and holders are said to enable fast replacement of cutting edges with accuracy during change-over. Also, according to the company, the inserts cannot be engaged incorrectly into the holders.

The company says the tool life is improved because of the Tiger·tec Silver PVD carbide grades. The carbide exhibits toughness and enables a reduction in machining time through its optimized microstructure. Also, PVD grades help reduce wear because of the integrity of the coating that is apparently not susceptible to thermal stress variations during wet and dry machining.

The productivity of the grooving inserts is enhanced by the toolholders, which enable longer tool life and high productivity with precision cooling on the rake face. Additionally, the dowel pin location feature of these holders insures correct insert seating and indexing accuracy.
