Machining Calculator Available as Phone, Tablet, PC App

Calculated Industries’ Machinist Calc Pro 2 calculator is now available as an app for smartphones, tablets and PCs. The apps are built with the same features, functions and core engine that powers the handheld Machinist Calc Pro calculator. The calculator is designed to help machinists spend less time looking up specs and data in books, on charts or other computer programs. The device and app are said to provide fast, precise, machining-specific solutions for face, end and slot milling plus turning, drilling and boring, by enabling calculation of speeds and feeds for these operations.

The app features built-in tables for 20 materials, six processes and three tool types for feed and speed calculations. Users can enter numeric, fractional or metric thread and drill sizes as well as display tap, roll tap, close and free-fit drill sizes in addition to pitch, major and minor diameters. The app also has functions for depth of cut (DOC), length of cut (LOC) and width of cut (WOC), and is capable of calculating surface feet per minute (sfm), inches per tooth (ipt), inches per minute (ipm), inches per revolution (ipr) and number of teeth. Other functions include right-triangle math and trigonometric functions; drill points via input of cutting angle and drill size; bolt pattern layouts; and three-wire measure to calculate pitch diameter. A built-in help function provides full, clear definitions, explanations, and examples of keystrokes.
