Seco Tools’ multi-directional turning and grooving (MDT) tools offer a variety of applications including grooving, profiling, turning, parting-off and threading. The system consists of holders and inserts for external radial, external axial and internal machining. For the holder, the company’s Secoloc clamping combines a V-shaped top clamp with serrated contact surfaces between the underside of the insert and the toolholder, which is said to deliver stability and safety.

Applications for the system include turning parts with different diameters, complicated profiles and grooves. The system supports a variety of indexable inserts, toolholder styles, cutting widths and grades. It also includes interchangeable heads for use with the Steadyline modular vibration-damping tool bar system that incorporates the company’s GL Connection. According to the company, these ensure precision for grooving and turning in long-reach applications as well as those with a high risk of cutting vibrations.

The system heads also offer the company’s Jetstream coolant technology. This technology is a high-pressure coolant delivery system that removes heat from the cutting zone and is said to improve tool life, part quality and productivity.
