Valenite’s V490 multi-application face mill is available with square, round or octagon inserts for general-purpose machining operations. With the ability to consolidate multiple applications with one face mill and three insert styles, the mill is adaptable to virtually any operation. Its secure insert retention is designed for precise indexing, making the cutter suited for steels, stainless steels and cast iron.
The octagon insert is effective for low cutting force milling with eight indexes; the square insert is suited for 90-degree shoulder machining with a depth of cut ranging to 0.500" (12 mm); and the round insert performs well in rough face milling and shallow profile machining, the company says. Insert sizes range from 0.500" to 0.625" (12 to 15 mm). According to the company, the universal seat pocket makes programming easy using the same height dimensions for all three inserts.
The mill is suited for automotive, die and mold, oil/gas, aerospace, power generation, off-highway, medical, marine, heavy equipment and general machining industries where face milling, shoulder milling and profiling operations are performed.
