Kennametal and Haimer have developed the KM4X spindle interface with Safe-Lock toolholder technology. The KM4X interface is said to combine high clamping force and optimized interference levels, providing a robust connection and high stiffness and bending load capacity for improved performance in machining high-strength alloys and other materials. This interface can perform both roughing and finishing operations.

Haimer says its Safe-Lock system provides rigidity, accuracy, balance and security by combining the frictional clamping force of precision clamping holders (shrink fit chucks, collet chucks and hydraulic chucks) and positive locking by keys in the chuck that grip grooves in the tool shank. It can enable increased speeds and feed rates to achieve higher machining productivity.
