A Selection of Technologies on Display at JIMTOF 2010
The 25th edition of the Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF) was held at Tokyo’s Big Sight complex in late October/early November. Here are some technologies that caught my eye.

Note the 3-degree A-axis tilt capability on this large-table Kuraki horizontal boring mill.
JIMTOF 2010 marked the world premiere of Nakamura’s MX-5 turn-mill that has two ATCs.
The Matsuura MAM72-35V five-axis VMC has a pallet system to enable setups for new jobs while another is being processed.
This Okuma MCR BIII double-column machining center offers a 6,000 rpm spindle for five-axis machining of large parts like this oilfield component.
Simultaneous five-axis machining was displayed on this Yasda YMC 430 micromachining center with a 40,000 rpm spindle.
This HMC from Mazak is designed for effective machining of high-temp alloys using a 6,000 rpm spindle that offers 1,042 foot-pounds of torque.
Fanuc demonstrated its large-scale automation capabilities with the iRVision version of its M-2000iA. It uses a camera to detect the large part on a pallet and a 3D laser vision sensor to detect the part’s precise position prior to pick-up.
A camera inside this Makino a61nx HMC offered a good look at the machine milling a hydraulic control valve.
The Vertex 550 5X is a five-axis machine from Mitsui Seiki that offers a big machining envelope in a small footprint.
Fuji’s VTP 1000 VTC offers a table diameter of 1,000mm for large-scale vertical turning operations.
The two-turret NZL 6000 with Y-axis capability was the biggest turning center in the Mori Seiki booth.
The 25th edition of the Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF) was held at Tokyo’s Big Sight complex in late October/early November. Nearly 115,000 visitors attended the show despite the rainy weather (there was a typhoon in the area).
Although I was only able to attend for one day, I did manage to snap photos of a handful of interesting technologies that caught my eye. Check them out in the slideshow below.
