For students who are considering a career in manufacturing, cutting tool maker Sandvik Coromant produced this virtual field trip to the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), the largest event for manufacturing professionals in North America. This video—created and filmed by Underhouse Studio—shows the real-life technology used to manufacture automotive components, including the structure of a futuristic car that is 3D printed. Manufacturers and manufacturing technology companies seen in this video include Doosan, FANUC, Hurco, Local Motors and Linear Mold & Engineering. Also included in this video are Peter Eelman of the Association For Manufacturing Technology talking about the scope of IMTS, as well as technology breakout moments by Peter Zelinski of Modern Machine Shop magazine.
