For exact machining of thin-walled rings on rotary tables, cylindrical grinding machines and lathes, Schunk offers standardized magnetic chucks with radial pole pitch. Magnos radial pole plates work with electrically activated permanent magnets and are suited for hard and finish turning, as well as grinding and rough machining.

The workpiece can be machined from three sides without a change-over, and because the magnetic field is active to the outer fringe areas, large workpieces can be clamped securely and deformation-free, the company says. It adds that the 2D-acting holding force reduces vibration during machining. This protects the cutting edges of the tools from damage and improves the surface quality of the workpiece, the company says.

The company offers three sizes of standardized radial pole plates to suit individual application requirements. An AlNiCo single-magnet system with automatic demagnetization is available for grinding operations; an AlNiCo double magnet system with high holding forces is available for turning operations; and an extra-strong AlNiCo neodymium magnet system is available for demanding rough turning applications.
