What makes additive manufacturing (AM) distinctive among manufacturing processes? Why do so many companies that apply AM for production also choose to build their own 3D printers? How sustainable is AM, anyway? And does 3D printing drive startups, or are startups driving 3D printing forward?

Over at Additive Manufacturing Media, we’ve launched a new podcast, AM Radio, to explore these questions and more. As the editors of Additive Manufacturing magazine, we are privileged to be able to visit, talk to and learn from the people who know additive manufacturing best — but not all that we learn finds a place in a piece of text online or in print. On AM Radio, Pete Zelinski, Julia Hider and I share observations, anecdotes and much more related to the real applications of additive manufacturing. Our aim is to relay the important lessons that real AM users have learned as well as provide context for AM within the larger manufacturing landscape.

AM Radio

The first few episodes of the podcast answer the questions above — you can find them now embedded below or wherever you get podcasts. But there is more to come. In future installments, we’ll talk about why those who know additive best tend to be the most negative about it; lessons from the upcoming Additive Manufacturing Conference + Expo; why there is reason for optimism with 3D printing, in spite of its difficulties; and much more.
