Grades’ Coating Reduces Friction in Grooving, Parting
Walter has introduced three new Walter Cut GX Tiger-tec Silver CVD grooving and parting grades (WKP13S, WKP23S and WKP33S) for use on steel and cast iron applications.
Walter USA has introduced three new Walter Cut GX Tiger-tec Silver CVD grooving and parting grades (WKP13S, WKP23S and WKP33S) for use on steel and cast iron applications. The grades are available with the company’s UD4, UA4, UF4 and RD4 geometries, as well as its GD3 and CE4 plunge-grooving and parting geometries. They also include wear-resistant materials that are said to boost cutting parameters while maintaining or improving tool life.
The grades’ thicker coating features aluminum oxide with a microstructure designed to reduce friction for resisting crater wear and enhancing cutting speeds. A silver flank face enables wear detection and full cutting-edge usage. A mechanical post-treatment that enhances toughness via compressive stresses boosts load capacity and metal removal rates by reducing the chance of chipping on the cutting edge.
WKP13S is designed to deliver wear resistance and high cutting speeds in continuous cutting of high-alloy, bearing and carbon steels as well as gray cast irons, ductile irons and compacted graphite cast irons. WKP23S works for a variety of applications, from continuous cutting on bar stock to machining interrupted cuts. WKP33S is designed to provide toughness during unfavorable machining conditions.
