Rego-Fix has expanded its PowRGrip line of toolholding systems with the PGU 9500 automatic clamping unit. Smaller in size than other units in the line, the toolholder is ergonomic, energy efficient and practically maintenance free, according to the company. The unit has fewer moving parts and incorporates durable proximity switches as well as other design changes to boost reliability, improve system longevity and save on costs. To enhance system speed, ease of use and operator efficiency, the PGU 9500 clamping unit features a streamlined exterior design. Operators can more easily reach the unit’s emergency stop switch,now located up front, and the main power switch located on the side. All exterior buttons are flush-mounted for operator safety and to prevent damage.
Rather than using heat or hydraulics, the toolholding system relies on the interference between holder and collet to generate high gripping force with run-out below 0.0001". According to Rego-Fix, it takes less than 10 sec. to press in a tool or remove it from the holder. Because no heat is used, tools can be used immediately after a tool change. Interchangeable collets are available from 1/8" to 1", including metric sizes, and will hold both carbide and high speed steel tools.
