The latest version of Caron Engineering’s ToolConnect retrofit hardware and software package for machine tools is designed to reduce human error and setup time by automating the transfer of CNC tool data to and from the control.

The tool identification system uses RFID tags embedded in toolholders. The measurement data is written into the RFID tag using a tool presetting. When the tool is placed in a custom RFID read station at the machine, the system reads the data and automatically updates the tool’s offsets to the control. When machining is complete, tool life information is updated back to the RFID tag, which can be read anywhere.

The latest version is customizable from the drag-and-drop design of the user interface to the system’s process and functionality. The web-based interface enables the UI to be displayed on any connected PC. The system can also be programed remotely.
