Held June 2-7, 2014, at the Bilbao Exhibition Center in Bilbao, Spain, the 2014 BIEMH trade show hosted more companies, products, visitors and buyers than in years past. A total number of 35,500 attendees from 57 countries visited the 28th International Machine Tool Exhibition (BIEMH), reflecting an attendance increase of 4.2 percent over the show’s previous edition. Organizers and exhibitors were widely satisfied with the quantity and quality of attendees and anticipate further growth for the 2016 edition, according to a post-show report.

The trade show hosted 1,314 exhibitors from 27 countries, a 12-percent increase over the 2012 event. The sectors receiving most attention from visitors were chip-removal machines, tools and accessories for machine tools, metalforming machines, automation, metrology and quality control, welding, cutting and oxy-cutting, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. For the first time, BIEMH allocated an area dedicated to two new sectors: additive manufacturing and composites. More than 700 people gathered in the exhibition area’s conference room to learn more about these sectors.

In addition to exhibits, the show also featured keynote speakers, press conferences and other events, including the announcement of award winners for the 11th National Award for Design and Innovation in Machine-Tool and Manufacturing Technology. Ona Electroerosión won the top honor in the Machine Tool category, while Zayer won in the Components category. Gurutzpe and Fagor Automation were also recognized as special-mention companies.
