Porsche’s LMP1-class Le Mans racing team won first and second place in the 83rd FIA World Endurance Championship driving the Porsche Hybrid 919. The race was held June 13, 2015, in Le Mans, France.

DMG MORI has been a partner with Porsche, supplying the team’s auto part makers as well as helping to develop the Porsche 919; the company’s Deckel Maho Seebach facility in Thuringia, Germany, supplied machined vehicle components. Dubbed the Porsche Motorsport CNC Center of Excellence, the dedicated production department’s contributions included complex housings for pump stages or electric motors as well bearing shafts, heads and spigots for pedals, machined with steel, titanium and plastic on DMG MORI machining centers.

According to DMG MORI, the aim in working on the 919 model is ultimately to develop intelligent manufacturing solutions for demanding parts that can also be applied beyond professional motorsports.

This is Porsche’s 17th overall Le Mans victory in the 24-hour race, its last being in 1998. The company chose to re-enter the competition in 2014 after an absence of 16 years, intrigued by the challenge of the circuit’s new car efficiency requirements.
