Machine tool builder Mori Seiki (Hoffman Estates, Illinois) has announced a call for entries for the 2010 Innovation of the Americas contest, the third edition of the biennial competition. Designed to recognize innovative machinists in North, Central and South America, the contest is open to all individuals, companies, schools and research institutes that use CNC machine tools.

Participants can submit entries for four categories: aerospace, automotive, die/mold/artistic and general/tool/toy. Submissions are due by July 9 and will be judged over the course of the summer by a panel of industry experts. Judging criteria include design creativity, programming expertise and machining skill.

Winners in each of the four categories will be announced at IMTS 2010, where their entries will be displayed for the duration of the show in the Mori Seiki booth (S-8900). First- and second-place winners in each category will receive cash prizes amounting to $2,500 and $1,000, respectively, and all entrants are invited to an awards ceremony on Thursday, September 16.
