Integrated CAM System for Introductory Users
Delcam offers Solidworks Xpress, a free version of its Delcam for SolidWorks integrated CAM system.
Delcam offers Solidworks Xpress, a free version of its Delcam for SolidWorks integrated CAM system. The software provides 2D milling and drilling functionality and is designed as an introductory level program for users who are new to computer-aided machining. It is also well-suited for programming simpler CNC machines or for companies that wish to experiment with 2D machining, the company says.
The program is fully integrated into the SolidWorks environment so that it looks and behaves like SolidWorks, and any changes in the CAD model are reflected automatically in the tool paths. Feature-to-feature technology enables the generation of NC code for feature-rich 2D parts. The software can provide full 3D simulation of all tool paths with comprehensive gouge detection to check programs before they are sent to the machine. Time estimates enable users to compare the results of different strategies.
According to the company, the software automatically selects the appropriate tooling for the project, allocates the appropriate feeds and speeds to all the tool paths, and orders operations into the most efficient sequence. A basic set of post-processors enables users to tweak the standard posts to match their machine tool controls.
