It’s not unusual to find manufacturing in the news lately, but the public radio project “Changing Gears” has looked deeper to see the value of CNC machining. I got to offer some thoughts as part of a story broadcast yesterday on CNC machining’s importance—listen here. A companion to that story is this earlier “Changing Gears” story about lights-out machining, which suggests just why the jobs associated with CNC are often so sophisticated. Increasingly, the people working with CNC machine tools today are managing automated systems expected to deliver hours of uninterrupted production.
