July 2019 Product Spotlight: Grinding
This month’s Modern Equipment Review Spotlight focuses on grinding and abrasive machines and equipment.
Nagel Precision’s BF-series flexible stone superfinishers are designed to finish inner and outer bearing races. The machines are designed to meet customer specifications and can be equipped with either Siemens or Allen Bradley controls. The ultra-light finishing stone holder is mounted on a servo oscillator and attains speeds as fast as 45 Hz. Read more.
Okamoto’s ACC-818NC, a full-function, two-axis simultaneous CNC form grinder ideal for surface, slot, step, form and contour grinding, is now available with a ballscrew table drive enabling precise positioning. The machine can grind cylindrical components such as pins and punches and mold components such as core pins. In addition, the available indexing fixtures streamline grinding of punches and other components requiring two-axis simultaneous control. Read more.
United Grinding’s Studer S131R, a radius internal cylindrical grinding machine, is well-suited for making dies out of hard materials such as tungsten carbide and ceramics. The machine enables shops to generate diameters, cones and transitional radii with polished surface quality through B- and X/Z-axis interpolation. The machine is also useful for general grinding applications involving hardened steel, cast iron and copper. According to the company, the S131R provides single-clamping production of complex workpieces with tapers between 20 and 90 degrees. Read more.
Weiler Abrasives has expanded its offering of small-diameter cutting and snagging wheels for high-speed die grinders to include Tiger AO, Tiger Zirc and Tiger Ceramic. These 2" to 4" diameter wheels are designed for long life and fast cutting. The 38-item expansion provides end users in the metal fabrication and ship building industry with increasing levels of cutting performance to choose from. The Tiger wheels are available with ¼" and 3/8" arbor hole sizes. Read more.
Weldcote Metals, a division of Zika Group, has introduced its line of C-Prime and C-Prime Plus ceramic flap discs. The C-Prime discs have strong polyester backing for aggressive grinding applications that do not require excessive flexibility. The C-Prime Plus features a poly-cotton backing with high-quality ceramic grain, which provides more stretch and flexibility, while adding enough strength to maximize the cutting of the ceramic grain.
