Presented By:

The Aluminum Association presents the latest module in the first-ever virtual Aluminum Design and Lightweighting Solutions Workshop. Laurent Chappuis, President at Light Metal Consultants, will lead the discussion about aluminum sheet forming processes and will introduce the basics of stamping aluminum auto body sheet using a combination of theory and practical examples. Laurent will review all of the process steps from blanking to flanging including a brief overview of stamping CAE.

Primary Topics:

  • Aluminum auto body sheet stamping processing highlights
  • Introduction to aluminum auto body sheet formality
  • Stamping simulation considerations for aluminum auto body sheet
  • Selected application examples

Presenter:

Laurent Chappius

President, Light Metal Consultants

Laurent Chappuis has spent his lifetime in fields related to automotive manufacturing with a focus in computer modeling and aluminum sheet. As chair of Ford Motor Company's simulation development team, he worked for three decades on advanced project development and implementation, from FEA programs to CAE methods and advanced materials. Laurent led all of Ford's projects on aluminum autobody sheet, notably, the creation of modern aluminum closures in the 90's. He was the architect of the aluminum sheet eco-system in the 2015 F-150. Laurent also spearheaded Ford's closed loop recycling system development that recovers the equivalent of over 37,000 new F-150s monthly.
