Technical Event to Highlight Technology, Skills Development

A December 14 open house at cutting tool supplier Sandvik Coromant’s Fair Lawn, New Jersey technical center will focus on developing workforce skills and improving productivity.   The full-day event will feature a keynote presentation from Peter Borden, president of the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association (AMTDA), about the current state of U.S. manufacturing and the shortage of skilled labor facing the industry.

A December 14 open house at cutting tool supplier Sandvik Coromant’s Fair Lawn, New Jersey technical center will focus on developing workforce skills and improving productivity.
 
The full-day event will feature a keynote presentation from Peter Borden, president of the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association (AMTDA), about the current state of U.S. manufacturing and the shortage of skilled labor facing the industry. Following the presentation, Mr. Borden will moderate an industry panel discussion about how developments in machine tool technology affect demands on the workforce.
 
The schedule also includes four 45-minute breakout sessions. They include: “Machine Investment Planning,” “Process and Production Planning,” “Production Dollars and Sense,” and “Tooling Trends and Technologies.” Other highlights include an overview of Sandvik’s basic metalworking training course, “Metal Cutting Technology;” an overview of the company’s service offerings, including vending, recycling, laser marking, custom tooling and logistical support; and live machine demonstrations throughout the day.
