View MoreMonaghan Tooling Group’s MK Tools R4 Speed Drill series of high-performance solid carbide drills are engineered for high-speed, precision holemaking in a wide range of materials, including carbon steel, cast iron, gray cast iron and various alloys. Designed for demanding machining environments, they are available in standard sizes from 3-20 mm, with drilling depths of 3 × D or 5 × D, and are equipped with through-coolant capabilities to enhance performance.
The R4 Speed Drill Series features a two-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle for optimized chip evacuation and to minimize downtime. The 140-degree-point self-centering geometry is said to eliminate the need for pre-drilling operations, saving time and improving efficiency. Each is precision ground from premium carbide feedstock. Their four-facet point geometry, with its cross-web thinning and large radius, provides optimal stability and reduces cutting forces. Polished parabolic flutes and two guide lands are said to provide centering, low vibration and improved surface finish. Monaghan says these features combine to make the R4 Speed Drills well suited for high-speed applications in automotive, aerospace and general machining of components such as connecting rods, injection pumps, wheel carriers, guide wheel shafts and more.
Monaghan Tooling Group provides original OEM regrinding services, including advanced coating re-application. All standard drills are equipped with the MK Tools’ GTX coating, a multilayer aluminum chromium nitride coating that reduces drilling resistance, improves chip evacuation and extends tool life. The company say its in-house coating capabilities provide faster lead times for both new drills and regrinds.
