Tungaloy-NTK America Inc.’s DoFeedTri high-feed milling series offers an economical and reliable solution for complex mold machining operations. Designed with double-sided inserts for a total of six cutting edges, DoFeedTri provides reduced cost per edge compared to conventional inserts with four cutting edges.
DoFeedTri’s trigonal-shaped inserts feature a large contact face that provides secure insert retention when screw-clamped onto the cutter, eliminating insert movement during machining. Furthermore, the 12-12.5 degree entry angle directs the cutting force in the axial direction, reducing chatter and improving stability during machining with long-overhang tool setups. Strong cutting edges are said to provide long tool life and security at increased machining rates.
DoFeedTri is well-suited for ramp-down operations due to a long inner cutting edge that cuts more material than conventional milling inserts. The increased maximum ramping angles also improve productivity in helical ramping and pocket machining operations. These features provide a versatile solution for diverse applications in moldmaking.
Two insert grades are available: AH3225, which is well-suited for steel machining applications, and AH8015, which is optimized for hardened steel and heat-resistant superalloys. Cutters are offered in diameters ranging from 16-80 mm in metric sizes and from 0.625-4.0" in imperial sizes. With a range of high-precision cutters, DoFeedTri is designed to help mold builders reduce machining costs while promoting consistency across a variety of applications.
