Minimum quantity lubrication helped Ford receive a Climate Achievement Award from the EPA. MMS covered the company’s use of MQL in a cover story a couple years ago.

Last month, Ford was recognized for demonstrating leadership in reducing manufacturing CO2 emissions, receiving a Climate Leadership Award at the inaugural EPA Climate Leadership Awards Ceremony and Conference. Ford, the only automobile manufacturer to receive an award, has a global CO2 strategy that includes a publicly stated goal of 30-percent per-vehicle reduction in manufacturing CO2 emissions from 2010 to 2025.

This strategy builds on CO2 reductions of approximately 49 percent, or 4.8 million metric tons, from 2000 to 2010. During this same period, Ford reduced facilities-related CO2 emissions per vehicle by 30 percent

The company cites minimum quantity lubrication, or MQL, as a contributor to its success in becoming more environmentally responsible. In fact, I highlighted its application of MQL in our October 2010 cover story
