The president of the oilfield shop highlighted in our July cover story says adopting turn/mill machines was one of the most challenging endeavors his 55-year-old shop ever undertook. He also says it’s the best thing the shop could have done to become more efficient at contract work. Otherwise, why would he have just purchased his fifth and largest turn/mill?

In the five years since adopting their turn/mill mindset for contract work, the folks at Hunt and Hunt have learned a great deal about how best to integrate these complex machines. While turn/mills have a tremendous upside, Mr. Bowman says there are some things to keep in mind for shops that have no experience with these machines. I outline some of those considerations in the story.
