IMTS is not just a place to find new technology. Often it's the place where I learn for the first time about technologies that some shops have been succeeding with for quite a while. That was the case this morning, when I met with 3PM Technologies. The company got in touch with me in response to an article that asked whether a hole could be drilled and inspected in a single pass.3PM says the answer is "yes." The way they would do this is by mapping the sensor profile of an acceptable hole. While talking to company president Dan Rebmann today, he demonstrated the company's monitoring technology by spinning a quarter on a table equipped with sensors. The same kind of system can track the force changes related to a holemaking tool.
