The Aluminum Association presents the latest module in the Association's first-ever virtual Aluminum Design and Lightweighting Solutions Workshop. To address the industry-wide need for an aluminum-specific training curriculum for design engineers, this workshop brings together technical experts from leading aluminum producers: Arconic, Novelis, Rio Tinto, Hydro and Constellium. Jeff Victor, Hydro's R&D Upstream Manager, will review the extrusion process, extrusion alloy selection, and the benefits of an optimized profile design. Post-extrusion fabrication options will be discussed, focusing on how to minimize final cost and fully integrate the advantages of the extrusion process.
Primary Topics:
- Extrusion fundamentals: process steps and capabilities
- Common extrusion alloys and typical uses
- Specialty high-strength and crash alloys
- Benefits of combining fabrication with profile design
